Paulo Leminski poet and translator: the “trans-creation” of the poems from Petronius’ Satyricon

This paper presents an analysis of the translation made by the poet Paulo Leminski from Curitiba, Brazil, of the poems from Petronius’ Satyricon. Thus, the choices and liberties adopted by the poet will be highlighted, as well as the marks of his own poetic making in these translations. The analysis take into consideration the process of “trans-creation” of the poems, announced by the translator from his own theoretical convictions, i.e., that the translation of poetry should contain the surprise content of the original text, “uncreating” it to reproduce the material effects as well.
