Rimbaud’s presence in the Brazilian press of the nineteenth century

Abstract

Considering the studies dedicated to the processes of cultural transfers, the article analyzes the circulation, in the Brazilian newspapers of the nineteenth century, of the writings of Arthur Rimbaud. The publication in the magazine Homens e Lettras was a translation of an article in the Nouvelle Revue, by Maurice Peyrot. The Brazilian publication, by Samuel Martins, shows the poet’s presence in the country during this period. Through the observation of the articles, one can demonstrate the effects of cultural transfers and how, in the process of migration of an art object, choices are made, generating a new artistic material.
