This article begins with a historical observation and seeks to extract all its formal consequences in terms of historical poetics. Indeed, the transformation of the publishing system in the 19th century, linked to the development of cultural industries and modern media, triggered a mechanism of depersonalization which, in reaction, led writers to find new ways to inscribe their authorial presence in their own texts. I call this writing process subjectivation and analyze its four main forms: laughter and irony, textual opacity, the poetics of verse, and the false impersonality of the realist novel. Finally, I group under the term authorial figure the properly stylistic manifestations of this authorial presence.
