Este estudio ofrece un análisis del banquete, el ayuno y la digestión en La vie seinte Audree, un poema medieval francés atribuido a Marie de France. Las escasas alusiones a la comida en el texto recomiendan una práctica de “moderación moderada” que combina el consumo diario, los banquetes y los ayunos como componentes esenciales de la alimentación sagrada. A través de un enfoque particular en los tropos de la hospitalidad, las anguilas y la excreción, el poema también posiciona el sistema digestivo humano como un sitio de santificación espiritual.
