This article aims to understand the relationship between Renaissance man and the construction of the lyrical self in two poems by Joachim du Bellay. From the critical analysis of the poems, we can understand how the characteristics of the Pleiades, a movement in which the author participates, are connected to the conception of man in the Renaissance. For that, we use the theory of Agnes Heller (1982) in the book “The Renaissance man”. Our hypothesis is that there would be an equivalence between the ontological movement of humanity’s empowerment and the elevation of the work of art in this context.
