The formal play of the addressed court highlights some fundamental questions of Mallarmé’s poetics (in miniature and ironically: the form maintained as an absolute even in the small-scale realization of the small fetish-books or object poems; an erotica of distance, a thought of the literary community (as the epistolary connection manifests) that is known to be posted in the solitude of writing.
