Our essay study the occurrence of oppositions in João Cabral de Melo Neto’s poetic work. We analyze some poems of different publications of this Brazilian writer, as good examples of the recurrent use of oppositions in his work. Despite the recurrence, these oppositions appear in different ways, which reinforces the exercise of a writer against sameness.
