“Send me literary news”: between letters, poetry and magazines, Lêdo writes to Domingos

Abstract

This paper presents a reading of the correspondence exchanged between the poets and editors Lêdo Ivo and Domingos Carvalho da Silva during the 1940s and 1950s. For this research, the approach of Lêdo Ivo’s letters to Domingos is crossed with statements by the poet and editor of Orfeu to the Revista Brasileira de Poesia, edited by Domingos Carvalho da Silva, as well as with aspects of Lêdo Ivo’s own poetry. Thus, a possible poetic and editorial perspective defended by Lêdo Ivo is highlighted – a perspective that destabilizes, reveals paradoxes and highlights some assumptions of the so-called “generation of 45” in Brazil.
